I feel like I could have spent a week going through the ship and still finding new things to learn about. The tour of the island was great and was the only guided portion of the ship, though there were many helpful and knowledgeable docents throughout. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the San Diego area, even if just for a weekend.

One of the best museums you can visit in San Diego or even anywhere in the country. Admission costs about $20 (although there are cheaper options for students, elderly and youth). You get in-and-out privileges. There are 3 main areas to cover - (1) The middle level where you enter - has a nice theatre which gives a good background on why this aircraft carrier is called USS Midway. Contains few fighter air crafts which took part in the Battle of Midway. And a few video terminals which provide interesting information. Has paid simulation rides for those interested. A small cafe, gift store & photo store are also on this level. (2) The upper level is where a majority of the aircraft's are housed. There are two ongoing talk shows which talk about landing and take-off of flights on and from this ship. It becomes more clear from here on the enormous scale of this ship. (3) The lower level is like an underground city. Hosts areas for laundry, kitchen, medical and dental clinics, and more.
